Re: Hard disk music question
Bear in mind that these attenuators make your SPDIF cable the equivalent of a top of the range SPDIF cable (actually it makes it better than that - I have scope shots showing what these attenuators do to the signal which Fran has seen). So compare what you would pay for one of these cables (99.9999%...

Re: Hard disk music question
Good point, Fran, but it's also worth pointing out that these are not thought to be usable on any SPDIF signal, only those signals that are higher than normal which the Hiface is. I believe that may well be applicable to a wide range of devices between the transport & the DAC but it really depen...

Re: Hard disk music question
Ken, Thanks for the post & delighted you like the sound - it really is up there, isn't it? Fran is correct, the computer you use to playback from is an important part of the sound & for best sonics & serious listening you should really use a dedicated computer with as few process running...

Re: Bring out yer dead!
Thanks Fran for remembering me! I'm not sure if I have an immediate use for one but if it's Ok to store with you I would be interested? That reminds me I must pay a trip to my recycling centre one of these days - they are due a bit of "real recycling" although they don't seem to understand...

Re: Hard disk music question
Here's what WGV says about streaming: "WVIP members get 192kbps streams, double our standard bitrate. You will love the quality difference and please don᾿t blame us if it prompts you to buy better speakers." Is anybody a WVIP member? Notice a better quality? I'm thinking of signing up!

Re: Hard disk music question
There also is a little application that comes with the Hiface that shows what bit depth & speed is being handled by the Hiface - it agrees with Foobar but could be useful for check the streaming quality of Wolfgang's vaults. The app is called "display.exe" in the M2tech folder. [sarc]Y...

Re: Hard disk music question
No, the squeezebox uses ethernet to connect to the computer & outputs SPDIf or analog (via it's internal DAC) . The Hiface uses USB to connect to the computer & outputs SPDIF.tony wrote:I assumed the hiface would just add to the quality being delivered to the squeezebox?

Re: Hard disk music question
Thanks James had a quick look at those links and they are kinda what I need to make sense of this stuff. The squeezebox sounds like the way to consider going. Fran has one and it was very impressive to here stuff from a remote pc played through the squeezebox through an amp into ugly old quads that...
