Re: Devialet 170
The outputs are quoted as "2x110 Watts under 6Ω" whereas usually at 8Ω Usually you see amps quoted at 8 , 6 and maybe 4 forgive my ignorance but is there any implications? Congrats KenMoran and did you pick the 170 over the 110 because of the sound difference or the better spec. Looking fo...

Re: Devialet 170
Be interested in DaveF second opinion on this, if both you guys are impressed I guess it can be really regarded as high end. Hopefully if I (somehow) afford one it's going to last me a very very long time. Diapason from your write up I take it you didn't try connecting to a server or pc as that woul...

Re: Devialet 170
Hmmm, 15 minutes of non-classical listening would suggest that my earlier post might have been hasty. The fight isn't over yet! I'm out tonight so I'll have no more time, but this really is an impressive machine. Really interested in hearing more. Was thinking of spending around 2k on a dac and str...

Re: Blade Runner
Strange, must've been my first taste of good hifi at the time and it was played pretty loud too but my brother was there also I guess our memory of it is clouded by time. Yeah End Credits was the track.......all these years I just put it down to the need of really high end equipment to reproduce it ...

Blade Runner
Hi guys Just thinking to myself there, I've been to a hifi shop in Scotland during the early 90s and the guy there put on blade runner the end credits I think and it sounded amazing and exciting. It was a pair of ruarks with the front slanting upwards and I think the amp was a pink triangle not too ...
Re: Speakers
Finally, speaking from experience of actually trying to 'improve' on my rusty old Castle Howard's - actually the very last speaker I would have put on my speaker short list (not 'cool' enough!) - in the recent past; I've come to appreciate their beguiling qualities as the years roll on and it's har...

Re: Buying/searching on the net how do you do it?
I remember asking for your advice on tvs a long time ago when you had a pioneer plasma Diapason!
Now here you are again giving advice on amps.
I remember you had a krell integrated which I was interested in too but since then you really spent some serious money!

Re: Buying/searching on the net how do you do it?
After a while I really think it's all synergy. I agree too but like Fran said it's luck unless you actually get a home demo. It's easier for a lot of you guys as I guess most of the members on the forums here are in and around Dublin but I'm down in Cork so I think most of the time a home demo woul...

Buying/searching on the net how do you do it?
Just wondering how you guys buy new seperates when you start upgrading. I'm currently looking for an integrated and after I upgraded I usually stay away from forums to save money 8) But looking for an integrated or any parts for that matter you get some seriously good value going down the 2nd hand r...
