Headphone amplifier kits

Post by Frankie Lee »

Having successfully upgraded my turntable motor I'm tempted to try some more hi-fi DIY. Anyone got any experience of these? https://bottlehead.com/?product=crack-o ... lifier-kit

They look ideal for a first project, just curious if anyone has any other recommendations.

Bottlehead have a great rep - just be aware that you are most likely working with high DC voltages that carry specific risks different than those that AC presents.

What about looking at the one with the toshiba mosfets viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4319

Also worth taking a look on diyaudio and seeing what kits are hot at the moment.
Do or do not, there is no try

Maybe not super hot at the moment, but worth noting: Gainwire mk2 and Salas DCG3

I built the Gainwire mk2 and the sound is really good. The design may seem complex, but it has this advantage that it does not require expensive/exotic parts.

DCG3 is definitely on my todo list.

Heres a list of hp amps and sources for you

I've never heard the crack, but was thinking about buying one before. Based on reputation, you could do worse.

nice thing about bottlehead is they include cases/chassis for their kits. If you build stuff, you'll find casing is the most time consuming and usually the hardest part of the build.

I have sooo many 1/2 or 75 or 90% completed projects laying around. My wife is on a cleaning kick, so I'm going to try to either finish or sell or do something with some of my stuff.
