I've been listening to BB King's One Kind Favor (double LP) produced by T-Bone Burnett. It has a really stripped down, back to basics sound. None of that Las Vegas sound that BB got bogged down in.

I like it and I'm not a huge fan. Listened to 30 second snippets of the rest of the album and I'm suitably impressed - music, recording, especially the vocals and a stellar band. Now I'm wondering what the rest of his latter day stuff sound like? At least I'll have fun finding out.....

I've always loved this album of Mighty Sam McClain.

The first clip features a guest guitarist who comes in on the first solo. Sadly both dead.
The second clip is just mesmerising by one of my favourites. He's dead too.

Thanks for the inspiration Cyndale.....

Two brilliant videos, when Alvin Lee stepped away from being flashy he was one of a kind! I have to hold my hand(s) up and say I had never heard of Jack Rose. Having John Fahey, Bert Jansch, Nick Jones in my collection I can't figure out how he passed me by.

Nice one! Hard to believe that George Harrison played the first slide solo on the Alvin blues.

Jack Rose was a (full on) one off, sometimes relentlessly so! But.....if you're in the mood he can take you places you never even dreamt of. From my own collection I'm fond of 'Opium Musik' and 'Kensington Blues' which are less frantic than his live stuff. Here's a couple of tunes anyway, the second from the next album of his I intend getting.
