i doubt these new micro pcs (nuc brix etc) will have better sound quality than say a standard s/h laptop or pc
so i wouldn't think that shelling out on a new micro pc will give you better sound
if buying new it would be worth considering a low cost simple audio pc build that will have superior sound
sd card player, modded soekris dac, class a lifepo4 amp or gb class a/b amp, diy open baffle speakers based on project audio mundorf trio 10's

Nigel, what would be the minimum spec for a computer that would be sited in a not too large music room? Operation would be headless, things like fans become nuisances in that environment.
It's OK, if there is no bread I will eat cake.

well fans are pretty much out of the question for audio pcs
the minimum specs really depend on whether your gonna use or may want to use in the future daphile, mqn, or jplay
daphile wont need a really high spec'd machine
so both headless and fanless

basic level parts based on a pico psu and linear power maplin xm21x will cost from €400 - 600
