I'm just saying he's not greedy, John's modifications turn a great piece if kit into a great piece of kit for very little cost.
Vinyl -anything else is data storage.

Of course, now that I've gone back to his site to get his e-mail address, there's a page of Options and Prices. http://sites.google.com/site/hifacemods/home/Options
I hesitate to say it Ivor but you're right about the charging. I have a useless pair of silver interconnect cables here which are allegedly worth more than the fully modified Hiface. Slowly but surely I can feel myself drawn into this one.

The Hiface converts from USB to [coaxial] SPDIF .. so using it you still just have a digital output from your computer and you still need a DAC.

"......
hiFace USB interface has been conceived to obtain the highest quality digital audio signal using a PC or MAC. hiFace input format is a data stream signal with sampling frequency/resolution up to 192kHz/24bits, available from a PC or MAC USB port. A very high quality S/PDIF stereo audio output signal is available from hiFace for your Hi-Fi system DAC (Digital to Analog Converter). HiFace looks like a small USB pendrive, featuring a very compact size. Internal very low jitter oscillators and proprietary drivers allow for playing 192kHz/24bits audio files that feature the best signal quality.

Hey guys I see some mention about my modified Hiface - is there any question I can answer?

Ken, there is a 30 day money back guarantee - so a chance to audition it in your own home system!

Tony, this device provides a high quality SPDIF signal to your DAC of choice from the USB port of your computer. Without wishing to come across as a salesman, it really does sound as good as a high quality CD transport - in fact I would say it sounds as good as a good analogue source!

James, yes you still need a DAC - consider it as a high quality/low jitter alternative to a CD transport but with the convenience of having all your music stored on computer & remote control via an iPhone/iTouch.

Apart from Fran's excellent review, there is another in-depth review here & lots of end-user reviews following it http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/483 ... ied-hiface

Thanks John it sounds like a great device might check it out some time in the future if/when considering options. Total ludite on type of unit and connections needed so pardon the simplicity of my questions.
