A sample of my recent listening habits follows:
Gregorio Allegri
Miserere
The Sixteen
Harry Christophers - conducting.
Richard Strauss
Don Quixote
Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
Herbert von Karajan - conducting.
I have to confess that I do struggle with this piece, fair play to Darren on the splendid job he did on it in 2012. Unfortunately, I cannot locate Darren's thread, I hope it wasn't deleted. I will preserve with von Karajan's reading of this work.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Symphony No. 34, 35 & 36
Prague Chamber Orchestra
Charles Mackerras - conducting.
The "Haffner" is on repeat play on a daily basis.
Co-incidentally Mackerras is to the fore on another splendid box set:
Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony no. 9
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra
Joan Rodgers (soprano), Delia Jones (alto), Peter Bronder (tenor) & Bryn Terfel (bass)
Charles Mackerras - conducting.
Ludwig van Beethoven
Piano Concerto No. 5
Concertgebouw Orchestra
Bernard Haitink - conducting.
If there is a better box set available of these splendid works please let me know and I will buy it.
And last week's winner of BAL:
Franz Schubert
Impromptus D899
c/w Impromptus D935
Radu Lupu (piano)
and now, well, it's back to the music.
