I found this in the local Charity Shop still sealed, some people don't realise what they are missing.

I always had a soft spot for Charlie Parr, he's described on his web site as "One Man, One Guitar, One foot in the Grave"

Great Music!

I also picked this up in tower the other day - although the recording is exactly what you;d expect given the age, the musicanship etc is just amazing. No wonder Bod Dylan wrote that great song "Nobody can Sing the Blues (like Blind WIllie McTell).

I think its worth hearing Dylans Lyrics on this one - and I know this is the wrong thread for it, but I think its a fantastic homage to another artist.

[Verse 1]
Seen the arrow on the doorpost
Saying, “This land is condemned
All the way from New Orleans
To Jerusalem”
I traveled through East Texas
Where many martyrs fell
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

[Verse 2]
Well, I heard that hoot owl singing
As they were taking down the tents
The stars above the barren trees
Were his only audience
Them charcoal gypsy maidens
Can strut their feathers well
But nobody can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

[Verse 3]
See them big plantations burning
Hear the cracking of the whips
Smell that sweet magnolia blooming
See the ghosts of slavery ships
I can hear them tribes a-moaning
Hear that undertaker’s bell
Nobody can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

[Verse 4]
There’s a woman by the river
With some fine young handsome man
He’s dressed up like a squire
Bootlegged whiskey in his hand
There’s a chain gang on the highway
I can hear them rebels yell
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

[Verse 5]
Well, God is in His heaven
And we all want what’s His
But power and greed and corruptible seed
Seem to be all that there is
I’m gazing out the window
Of the St. James Hotel
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

Fantastic stuff Fran....There's a few Blind Willie McTell vinyl in Tower like the one you've posted. I think it's high time I checked him out. And the first BBB Lp is long gone too. Did you get the vinyl edition?

I've just been to the Cobh Blues Experience opening night gig featuring Eric Bell and Crow Black Chicken. I was simply blown away by Crow Black Chicken who hail from Cork and have been described (wrongly in my view) as the Irish ZZ Top. It is a long time since I enjoyed a performance so much.

The festival runs until 22nd Sept; check out cobhbluesfestival.com

I would have placed them closer to the likes of Drive by Truckers... Yeah they're blues alright but far darker.
