I absolutely agree with that one Darren. Quite a few people miss that movement because of the monumental work that it is in and the last movements seems to overshadow all that preceeds it. It is one of my favourite movements in Classical music and is one of the tests that I use when determining how well I perceive how a conductor interprets a Beethoven cycle.

I do like the Julius Katchen I have heard in this repertoire, and have splashed out on the Decca 6CD boxset, which hopefully will arrive before I leave Norfolk on Thursday!

Debussy: String Quartet. 3. Andantino, doucement expressif

...but it needs the right performance. I listened to the Belcea Quartet last night and their slow movement left me unmoved. I like the Orpheus Quartet on Channel Classics
