Free - Faulty Amp - Possible EASY DIY Project to repair

Post by dgdgdgdgdg »

Hi Folks
Not sure if this is the correct place to put this:-

I have a faulty QED A240 CD amp with the SA (Super analogue) Phono card. - By all accounts a very sweet musical amplifier that compared very favourably against budget Audiolab and NVA at the time (Mid 80's).

see this link for sample description / pics (nothing to do with this seller btw) here:-

Bought this on another forum - approx 2 years ago - unfortunately condition was not as described and return costs etc meant that I did not return. Inspection showed that someone had replaced couple or resistors in line to output stage (scorch marks on PCB) - and one channel output is not working.

Output configuration uses triple darlington transistors and are known to blow as a common fault - have purchased replacements but havent got round to replace - these included also.

Was thinking of fixing to use the amp as a phono preamp ( amp has pre out connections as well as headphone socket).

I have received repair schematics from QED so should be an easy fix for the right person.

Have original box and foam inner.

Please PM me if interested - am based in D12 / D18 and travel 32 counties with work.

Yeah, I'll have a go at it if no-one else wants it...
