Although the recordings are slightly coarse, the playing is superb and the interpretation is very acceptable (although I agree that Jansons and Pletnev are superior). As a record of a fine RPO performance this CD will remain in my collection...Jose Echenique wrote:Oh my God Darren, why would you buy an Enrique Batiz recording?bombasticDarren wrote:Rachmaninoff - Symphonic Dances (Enrique Batiz, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Naxos)
He is the most vulgar and untalented conductor who walks the face of the Earth.
I have seen him rehearsing orchestras, insulting each and everyone of the players for refusing to accept his ludicrous ideas. He once got into a fistfight with a musician of the Xalapa Symphony because he couldn´t help laughing at his musical occurrences. When this guy gets mad, he acts totally crazy, like a drunk driver after an accident.
In Mexico he became famous by giving generous donations to politicians who kept him for decades as chief conductor of the State of Mexico Symphony, in spite of general disapproval and low attendance.
Besides, there are fine recordings of the Symphonic Dances by the likes of Pletnev and Jansons, so why bother with Enrique Batiz?

I have never been disappointed with Herreweghe Darren and this is no exception. Symphony No. 1 is a fine recording but it is definitely outdone by the performance of No. 3 here which was really very good. There is lovely poise and grace to the performances and they are very easy to listen to.bombasticDarren wrote:How did you find that set Fergus? I also have the companion CD of Symphonies 2 & 4 in my collection.

That is a wonderful set Darren and I particularly like the Choral music performances.

I am very partial to a Clarinet Concerto but I do not know that work; any thoughts regarding the music and the performance Darren?

It's absolutely charming Fergus. Clarinet Concertos are often pleasingly light and joyful, and this is mo exception. Flawless playing too in my viewfergus wrote:bombasticDarren wrote:Stanford - Clarinet Concerto (Robert Plane/David Lloyd-Jones, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Naxos)
