Although the recordings are slightly coarse, the playing is superb and the interpretation is very acceptable (although I agree that Jansons and Pletnev are superior). He once got into a fistfight with a musician of the Xalapa Symphony because he couldn´t help laughing at his musical occurrences. When this guy gets mad, he acts totally crazy, like a drunk driver after an accident.
In Mexico he became famous by giving generous donations to politicians who kept him for decades as chief conductor of the State of Mexico Symphony, in spite of general disapproval and low attendance.
Besides, there are fine recordings of the Symphonic Dances by the likes of Pletnev and Jansons, so why bother with Enrique Batiz?

I have never been disappointed with Herreweghe Darren and this is no exception. Symphony No. 1 is a fine recording but it is definitely outdone by the performance of No. 3 here which was really very good.
