What are you listening to?

Re: What are you listening to?
It´s been a long time since I last heard the EMI recording, so I don´t recall it very well, but the Concertgebouw performance is certainly very special. Surely Tennstedt was conscious of what a treat it is to conduct Mahler with the Concertgebouw.Seán wrote:Gosh, the complete opposite of his awful recording of Mahler's Fifth with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.Jose Echenique wrote: CD 2:
Mahler 5 with Klaus Tennstedt.
Sensational, dangerous, over-the-edge performance.
Re: What are you listening to?
It is the only version of Nielsen's 4th that I have and I have only ever listen to his symphonies 1 to 4 and I must say that it is my least favorite of the four. But after more listening, who knows it may change.Seán wrote:Yeah, it's okay, isn't it? It's nothing special.ravel30 wrote: - Nielsen Symphony no. 4 Blomstedt/Danish Radio Symphony / EMI Classics
It is a shame that there aren't that many complete cycles of Nielsen's symphonies.

Re: What are you listening to?
I find it very very good plus it was a real bargain so altogether it makes it one of my favorite box set. That being said, I only owe about 600 cds of a little bit of everything and there are not many pieces that I have two versions or more of. Experts ears or people on the other forum may not find that box set extraordinary like I do but it suits my need and interests very well.Seán wrote:I was hoping that you wouldn't say that.ravel30 wrote:

I take it that the above CD is not one of your "problem recordings" Dave....you seem to give it a lot of play time?DaveF wrote:

It's a great performance and recording Fergus. Some of the works here are choc full of little details and nuances that always make for an intriguing listen.fergus wrote:I take it that the above CD is not one of your "problem recordings" Dave....you seem to give it a lot of play time?DaveF wrote:

Thanks Dave; do you use it as one of your reference recordings when you are trying to iron out some of your audio issues? Just curious.

Re: What are you listening to?
Indeed it is. But you only really NEED one cycle: Blomstedt/SFSO - it's Fan-tas-tic!ravel30 wrote: It is a shame that there aren't that many complete cycles of Nielsen's symphonies.
