Re: My, what a big toe you have!

Yeah so far I have stuck with something similar. Very solid central image and not too much narrowing of soundstage if at all. Certainly the bass response seems smoother (presumeably because it doesnt interact with the room as much, more direct sound less reflected?)

Re: Speaker Choice

I have heard some older JMR speakers and based on a quick listen always thought they sounded very musical and non fatiquing. Never heard PMC but they seem to be highly regarded. As to the bass or lack of it this seems to be so room dependent for many speakers that you would really need to hear them ...

Hi Jeff, welcome to the forum. Are you located in Ireland? I'm sure if you pm site admin "Fran" and explain the situation he will give you some direction.

Re: My, what a big toe you have!

So far, based on my tweaking, I'm actually enjoying a set up where the speakers are pointed directly at the listening position and a little bit further apart than usual. I initially thought this might be too much of a good thing but not so far... Ah the joy of tubes!

Yep you need to be relaxed to properly evaluate any changes, that's why I'm waiting until tomorrow to have a king size listening session, play some challenging discs and see what the final score is. Certainly doesn't sound bad so far.

Re: My, what a big toe you have!

Yeah sitting here hot and sweaty and the heat coming off 16 KT88s and 32 small signal tubes ain't helpin. A nice cool Kingfisher lager will cool me down!

Re: My, what a big toe you have!

I'm using Thiel CS6s. Phase/Time coherent first order crossover - so I need to sit at least 9ft from them to allow drivers to integrate which introduces some limitation on moving them. Certainly can't put them 14ft apart as per SonusF in pictures, but I can toe them in which I have done. Testing now.
