Re: Wilson MAXX Speakers

If its the same pair then they have had them since 2006/7! I heard them around that time on an open demo and was disappointed with the sound although Ivan was pumping some dance music through them which was probably recorded in a studio with recording gear that in total cost a fraction of the speake...

Re: WTB vintage speakers

You might also consider these early Monitor Audio MA6s http://www.donedeal.ie/audioequipment-f ... 7?offset=4 which, with KEF woofers and Audax tweeters, sound different to their overly bright offerings of today.

Re: Wanted: Leak Stereo 30

Thanks Willie - the Stereo 30 is the ideal but the later Stereo 30 Plus might be ok too. A rental (with some sort of satisfactory arrangement that looks after his interests) would be fine if he doesn't want to part with it.

Re: Wanted: Leak Stereo 30

Thanks for that! I'll have to set up an account with Adverts.ie so will see if Wills has his contact details first. Would indeed be interesting too hear how those old germanium transistor amps sound with QUAD 57s so will give you a shout if I get a hold of one.

Wanted: Leak Stereo 30

Hello all

Just wondered if anyone has a Leak Stereo 30 (or Stereo 30 Plus) integrated transistor amplifier that they are interested in loaning (based in Dublin) or selling as I wanted to write a few words on its history as one of the first hi-fi solid state amps.

Re: Strathearn Audio

Read up about Strathearn a while back. Memory a bit hazey, (and you may know this already) but the company was supposed to have been part funded by the British State, some sort of regeneration project for Belfast. Views online about their products seems mixed but there is a lot of praise for their h...

Re: The Vacuum Transistor

Having a problem with the link but this reminds me of a chat I had with two electronics experts. I was waxing lyrical about how great triode valves are, and they both said pentodes were better because they could handle very high frequencies much better!

Re: Vinyl not better than CDs??

Interesting article - thanks for posting. One or two points. The author says most mics are rated to 20kHz - that's just within certain +/- amplitudes as many or most mics have a curtailed output above 20 kHz. There is a bit of bias when he states "The sampling rate for CDs is 44.1kHz, meaning t...

Re: Soundtracks, any favourites/recommendations

Roy Budd's soundtrack for the 1971 version of Get Carter (featuring Michael Caine) is impressive for the most part. It was reputedly recorded live to save on studio time.
