Quad 57s

Post by Fran »

Hi All,

a guy I know is selling a set of Quad 57s. They are early 70's models, bronze grilles, in pretty OK but dusty condition. I haven't heard these yet, but they were owned by an older gent who drove them with quad amps. There is a small mark on one of the grilles, but they are mostly pretty OK - a good clean would go a long way. I don't know if its going to be possible to listen to these before buying - its an estate sale and I just don't know if its possible.

The fella is looking for about 450 for them. Anyone interested? They're under pressure to move them on.

I'm guessing these would probably be an inadvisable shot in the dark for someone with zero technical knowledge and zero refurbishment budget?

Have never even heard electrostatics but would dearly love to own a pair anyway!

Thor - yes it's a shot in the dark but the indications are that they could be in good nick. I gather that you can audition them until next Tuesday night out in greystones.

This same fella has a list of other stuff up for sale.

Including:

more quads,
quad preamps and quad II
301 and 401
leak stereo 20 + TL12
some heathkit stuff
leak sandwich speakers
goodmans
tannoy drivers etc etc

Anyway, if anyone is interested, I can pass on his details to you. Its probably all in reasonable condition, but most if not all will need some TLC at the very least.
