Post by Fran »

Si had started one of these threads over in classical....... I thought it would be good to have a similar one over this side of the wall....

Heres one that I come back to again and again. Its fairly weird in spots but I just think its pretty wonderful and manages to hang together throughout.

Here are 20 of my favourite albums in no particular order. (No roots, soul, jazz, or classical, which belong elsewhere.)

Bob Dylan: Highway 61 Revisited
Beach Boys: Pet Sounds
The Mothers Of Invention: We're Only In It For The Money
Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica
Van Morrison: Astral Weeks
Joni Mitchell: Blue
David Ackles: American Gothic
Laura Nyro: New York Tendaberry
Soft Machine: Third
Tim Buckley: Starsailor
Nick Drake: Pink Moon
Richard and Linda Thompson: I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight
Can: Soon Over Babaluma
Big Star: Third Album
Brian Eno: Another Green World
Van der Graaf Generator: Still Life
Television: Marquee Moon
Patti Smith: Horses
Elvis Costello: Imperial Bedroom
Talk Talk: Laughing Stock

Nothing here since 1990, but this is music that I've grown up with and loved truly, madly, deeply for the past 20 years. To paraphrase Peter Hammill, too many of my yesterdays are lost in this timeless music.
Gryphon Diablo 300, dCS Rossini (with matching clock), Kharma Exquisite Mini, Ansuz C2, Finite Elemente Master Reference.

A beautiful list Paul and the quote from Peter is so, so true.... BTW you are allowed to put in Jazz, Roots and Soul albums....
