just a quick question....am i right in thinking a passive pre should be mute than increasingly louder?got one and twisting the volume is mute than loud then half way- low and gets increasingly louder(in a normal way)....did i get a dud?hope it makes sense..it sounds good and can work around by pausing but im worried ill damage my power amps.

Eh, that doesn't sound right - it should work exactly the same way as any other preamp, say off (7oclock) is mute, then smoothly progressively louder until the end of travel.

Definitely should not go up and down - sounds like its wired wrongly inside to me.

Sounds very like they soldered the wires to the wrong pins on the pot.....
