Low noise 24V 4A regulator

Post by tims »

Hi

I've been looking at this Belleson regulator to give me 24V @ 4A here: https://www.belleson.com/store/SPHP-High-Power. It's capable of up to 100V @ 10A and low noise at <5µV/Vout but probably overkill for what I need plus my funds probably won't stretch that far.

I wouldn't mind DIY'ing something to cut costs but there don't appear to be many low/ultra low noise regulators at this voltage. The closest I've found is a LT3086 here:http://cds.linear.com/docs/en/datasheet/3086fb.pdf at up to 40V @ 2.1A that can be paralleled to give 4.2A but these are tiny DFN/TSSOP packages that require the ground slug(?) of the regulators to be soldered onto the PCB (for heat-sinking) and beyond my abilities I think.

Anyone know if of anything else I can buy (ebay?) or would the Belleson reg above be my best bet?

Thanks

just need a suitable transformer

24v x 4 amps is 96 w is quite a lot of power are u sure its needed?

If LM338t is under consideration, then LT1084 or LT1083 is much better choice.

BTW, looking at the pic of the belleson, hard to believe it can put out 10A.

(slaps his head for missing the obvious lol)
Of course. But they don't show the BIG heatsink you'll need on the mosfet.
