Had a very cool experience last week.
There is a guy here in LA called Gary Calamar who I believe is on public radio and involved in music for TV shows. He used to host, for free, a very intimate music series out of his Laurel Canyon living room. If you look on youtube and search for Mimosa Music Series/Gary Calamar I think you will find snippets. The series has now moved from his house to a small bar, held during the day on Sunday and open to everyone and still for free. I went and listened to Veruca Salt/Nina Gordon & Louise Post perform an excellent acoustic seat just 20 feet or so from me. It was such a cool atmosphere there, light banter and great music. There really is nothing like listening to people perform live.

Yeah, listening to live music and listening at home to a recording are two very different experiences. It does take a bit of effort to get out sometimes but it's usually worthwhile.

I would also agree here; the live musical experience is usually definitely worth that little bit of extra effort.
