RIP Janos Starker

Post by DonKC »

Janos Starker, 88, died today 4/28 after being on terminal care for several weeks. He taught legions of cellists, had a long solo career and was principal cellist of the Dallas SO in the early 50's under Dorati and then principal in Chicago SO in the Reiner years.

His Bach Cello suites remain my standard to this day.

This video of the last movement of the Kodaly Solo Cello sonata is amazing.

RIP Maestro Starker. The Bach suites will be played here today

Very, very sad to hear this news. Starker was one of my favourite cellists. I agree with Don wholeheartedly that Starkers Bach suites are definitely something special; one notices this from the moment that one presses the play button. This is a very big loss to the classical music world.
