Teufel t400mk2 advice!

Post by Grinder*man »

Hi All, I am considering pulling the trigger on a set of Teufel T400mk2 speakers to partner a Yamaha as500 amp. Its currently paired wiht a set of Monitor Audio Bronze3 speakers that have served me for 10 years+...but the tweeters have blown so I need to upgrade....that said, I am at the lower of audiophile hi-fi, so these would be a significant purchase for me... whatever I buy will probably need to server me for another 10 years+

Appreciate any advice offered.

Gotta be honest, I've never heard of these, so it's hard to know what to say. For me they're a bit pricey to buy without demoing in advance, especially if they're going to be in your system for a long time. Are you anywhere that allows you to do a few comparisons?

Best of luck with the search in any case, and welcome to the forum!

Cheers guys - they sell direct to the customer and are apparently v well known and respected in Germany - hard to get much info/reviews in English though.

They do also offer an 8 week no quibble return policy on account of not selling through shops....I suspect you may get good bang for your buck with them, but would love to hear if anyone has any experience with them...it a bit of a gamble i guess!

I am in Dun laoghaire - but it doesn't help in anyway re comparisons, as you can't get teufel speakers in any shop...I could pop down to Cloney audio to see what they've got, but I'm not sure I can really afford to walk through those doors!

If you we're happy with monitor audio, the bx5 would be a natural progression for the same money....
Brass Bands are all very well in their place -
outdoors and several miles away....

i have bx5's i like them, but ive got them connected to a av receiver (probably a bit of a waste) so i dont really know their full potential.
the tannoys were supposed to be the best bang for buck in whathifi 500-1500 GBP and thats when they cost 800 GBP. http://www.whathifi.com/review/tannoy-revolution-dc6t
but id be trying to listen to any of them before i buy, hassle of returning stuff

There's no doubt tons of choice at this price range but in my limited experience System Audios are well worth checking out. Ivan in Cloney should be able to show you them.

I'm sure they're perfectly good but System Audio, Tannoy etc are a safer bet... and proven. Personally I wouldn't spend the money on them. Cloney, KronosAV and Richersounds are all worth checking out, the first two may even have second hand speakers worth considering.

Hi folks,

Thanks for all the advice - have been checking out richersounds & KronosAV as advised.

Still haven't given up on the teufel though! Have been looking for reviews etc, but they're all in German!

For anyone interested:

Review from a German site with dodgy google translation, but some good snaps of the units: http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2012/teu ... ark2.shtml

Review of earlier incarnation: http://www.meetgadget.com/gadget/33583/Teufel+T+400

Google search throws up lots on these speakers but its all in German and Dutch! https://www.google.ie/search?q=teufel+t ... 60&bih=567
