Which Android Tablet to Control Squeezbox

Post by james »

I have tried using a friends Galaxy phone to control my squeezbox and I am quite impressed with it.

I am thinking of getting a tablet to do the same thing .. what is a good choice ? Do I need 10" or is 7"
sufficient. I would ideally like one with a replaceable battery [and ideally a good battery life].

Is the use of a laptop another possibility ? I dont know if the squeezbox remote control will work
on a laptop.

Try and get a feel for 7" vs 10" - the 10" feels at least twice as big and is also heavier, but is more user friendly for reading a forum for example. Bigger real estate on the screen too makes it easier to navigate sometimes. I suspect that 7" is the sweet spot for this.... you have to hold each one in a shop, and imagine it sitting on your knee or whatever and which you think would be more user friendly for you.

My daughter just got a 9" tablet (go clever Android OS) in DID for €149. Decent spec and comes with a case which has an integrated keyboard. It's certainly great value for the money.

Thanks for all the advice .. I ended up [today] buying a Samsung 10" tablet in PowerCity for Euro320 [which is a good price .. amazon.co.uk is about Euro290 but I prefer to a) help the local economy and b) have a physical shop to return to if it breaks].

It's probably overkill for my needs .. but the rest of the family can have fun with it ..

I decided on the 10" versus the 7" because some of the titles of my CD's are stupidly long [e.g. something like 'Bernstein Box Set -- Disk 5 -- Dvorak -- Symphony 9 New World -- Movement 1 allegro ..' and I would be happy enough with the message 'Allegro' since I know I have selected Bernstein/Dvorak/Sympnony 9]

Anyway .. thanks again for the advice
