Turntable Cartridge choice ?

Post by sdiesel77 »

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading my current TT cartridge (Grado Prestige Green) and I'd like your opinion on what I could get.
It will be going on my handmade turntable and mounted on a technics mkII arm.

I've seen the following ones that seems to be quite good:

Shure M97XE
Denon DL 110
Audio Technica AT 120 E/II
or any other model within the same price range...

I'm many listening to Rock, Punk rock, Jazz 50s, Blues 50s

Cheers :)

The Shure MX97E is a little belter of a cart. I nailed one on to my friend`s RB250 last year (expertly re-wired by the ever gracious Fran!) and it sounds great. Tracks like a train and is very forgiving on lower quality pressings. At 80 squids from a german ebay seller it`s an absolute bargain.

I am using the Dynavector 10x5 which I think is excellent. Maybe a bit more expensive though?

I regularly drink Green Spot when listening to music. It's an excellent upgrade.
