Problem with Roksan Xerses 20 Turntable

Post by PeterK »

I have a Roksan Xerses Turntable with Tabriz Zi tonearm and Van Den Hul MC one Super cartridge. The issue is very simple but I am having problems diagnosing it. When I play some but not all records, the last track sounds out of tune, the pitch is weird and this has been commented on by my wife. I don't think it is inner groove distortion as the track is not distorted per se. Any thoughts. Any help would be much appreciated.

Very likely to be the power brick. Which type is yours?

Ivor had an issue like this a while back - give him a shout if he doesn't happen along here soon...

here I am boss! (I saw the bat signal)

My issue was irregular speed rather than something as specific as a higher pitch on the inner grooves.
Get yourself down to Cloney and invoke the name of Ned Costello. He's Noel Cloney's "go to" guy for Roksan issues

Caspian M series. Thought it might be this. It probably is this. I would however have thought it would occur at other times. Another thought is that it might be records that are off centre.

The thing is, its probably not your imagination. You should have perfect pitch stability. Anything else on a TT is most likely either something wrong in either a) power supply; b) bearing dry; c) belt.

So is yours the type with a wall wart, feeding another brick where you select 33/45 and then that goes to the TT?

BTW, I second Ivors suggestion of rooting out the Costello fella......

Thanks guys for the advice. I certainly will give Cloneys a shout. Ned is a nice guy and I hope they can help. The Power supply and speed control I think is housed in the Caspian unit. No Wal Wart. Plug goes straight from Caspian unit to socket. The bearing being dry could also be the problem. It needs to be oiled apparently every 18 months. The tolerences apparently are very tight and the turntable is a nightmare to set up. I got it second hand from Cloneys. I would not be aware of the last time oil was applied. Sound otherwise is brilliant.
