that's about what i found with my set too. when you were listening to them at my old place, they were reclined about 3 degrees at most; more often they were as vertical as i could get them. if you get them placed closer than a meter from the rear wall the reflections made them too boomy with an incline.

that being said, them adjustable rear footers of yours sure do look purty! almost makes me want to run a single set again...

I've got my 57s on dodgy/bodgy 70s style chrome speaker stands - only about 40cms high, but again a huge difference compared to being on stubby feet - and again, I mount them vertically. I still think they would sound better being a little higher to match my seating position (based on sitting on a low stool versus the armchair).

Interested in hearing your 57s Fran - I have been living happily with the 63s for a while now, long enough to have me itching to swap back to the 57s for a comparison. Thursday should motivate me.

Mind you - I need to get the 63s up off the ground too (bass a little flabby [I suspect/hope], and I get a sore ass listening on the floor). Fancy making a metal kit for them, LOL?!

I think the key to a stand kit will be the finishings - correct length/quality of new woodscrews, finishing on adjusters, etc. But I think it will fly.

As Barry alludes to, proximity to a rear wall, or at least something (shelving/rack) to break up the low frequency waves behind the speakers, will change the character of the bass. Trial and error is the only approach I know.

The layout suggested by Dr. Quad has worked well for a large number of people. I'll go see if I can root it out...

I'd be interested in that myself... Dr. Trailanderror has been suspected of malpractice for some time now.

Mine have lots of free space behind them due to size of room - 4-6 feet. The 63s have much more bass than the 57s, and I suspect I would sacrifice a little quantity for a bit more quality. Having said that, it's not that important...or I would have tried them on chairs already!

Interested in seeing the Dr Quad article too.

Here we are worrying about nice stands. I read a quote from Peter walker a little while back where he said something along the lines of:

"oh, don't worry about making stands, just prop them up on a couple of beer crates or what have you".

actually, he closed the site because his web host wanted to charge real money for it; screw it, he said...so to speak
