That was one of his endearing qualities :) He also spoke real low which added even more gravitas to his presence :) And then either the phone or doorbell would ring and you'd be lifted out of it :) I was very fond of him though and sad to hear of his eventual departure....

On a impulse.... I decided to have a browse on ebay for various junk which might be of interest.... so I did a search for Tannoy...

Lo and behold.... there is a pair of Tannoy Edinburgh Dual Concentric speakers listed at a cool 13,799 stg, on sale from a chap in Limerick no less.

In addition there is also a pair of Advantgarde Duo's for 5999 stg, Tannoy Kingdom at a mere snip of 29,499 stg and several other brands.

What a surprise!!!!!!!!!!

He has serious high end gear for sale, Chinese style English, and he also sells chip fryers....!!

Bought a pair of made of yew and I think they're very elegant looking to this day.
I was shown a pair of kefs but can't remember what they were that had far more attack but were too big, more expensive and for me less I dunno airy sounding as I was coming from a pair of bose speakers.

It was only upgrading to a bel canto integrated in the last month from a fellow member here that I realised how good the speakers are.
Have an audiolab pre/power (*ahem* which is for sale) which doesn't driving them very well so I would say they're tricky to drive.

Was going to change my speakers and looking at the b&w range in the summer but now having second thoughts after my upgrade.

Hello block! That's an amazing coincidence eh? I'll say nothing about the audiolab suffice to say they didn't do justice to my own Castles either! You've no option but to go down the valve route now ha ha! Only joking! They do sound fantastic with valve/class A equipment and! you're right, they have exceptional hidden qualities which tell me, whether I like it or not, I'll never have to upgrade to another speaker again. And that's the absolute truth! They get so many things right that you tend to take them for granted until you hear something that's supposed to be the best. You really do get your eyes opened :) I mean I can play anything through them, from excruciating noise/feedback to acoustic to classical and all points in between from my very eclectic Lp collection and I lose no sleep at all. Maybe the neighbours do LOL! So I here and now make a resolution to myself : leave the Castles alone!

Do you not eat chips when you are listening to a good music session?!?!

I find the sizzling of the fat sets up third order harmonics which seriously interfere with the treble.... also I kept burning myself....
