What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
this album is simply beautiful, but Media vita is absolutely mesmerising in its beauty. If anyone asked me to play them some Renaissance music to see whether they liked it, then that would be one piece I'd choose.
Re: What are you listening to?
Johann Sebastian Bach
Overture No. 1 & 2
Collegium Aureum

Beethoven - Piano Concerto No.4 (Richard Goode/Ivan Fischer, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Nonesuch)

I over Tchaikovskyed in a big way in my late teens and early twenties Darren to such an extent that I have paid scant regard to him in later years. Perhaps it is time to rectify that in 2012!bombasticDarren wrote:Tchaikovsky - Suite No.3 (Neeme Jarvi, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Chandos)

I rally like the sound of the viola, even as a concertante instrument. I was listening only very recently to the great Harold in Italy by Berlioz.bombasticDarren wrote:Walton - Viola Concerto (Yehudi Menuhin/William Walton, New Philharmonia Orchestra, EMI) & Partita for Orchestra (William Walton, Philharmonia Orchestra, EMI)

That Walton conducts Walton disc is a great starting point for anyone with an interest in Walton.fergus wrote:I really like the sound of the viola, even as a concertante instrument. I was listening only very recently to the great Harold in Italy by Berlioz.
'Harold in Italy' is a very fine piece, especially in this recording:-

Media vita's soprano harmonies will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when they scale the top notes Fergus... and it lasts for 22 minutes..fergus wrote:Another one that has been on the List for a while I fear!!!!!
