Nice one Ivor! Will have to get me a copy pronto. The only MFMD vinyl I have is his last live set - Shake Them On Down recorded at The Gaslight McDougal St. NYC 1971....

It's a wonderfully simple recording (my copy is on vinyl via 4 Men with Beards) with Fred talking in studio for the first few minutes on each side about the blues and so on.... it's where the title comes from. Highly recommended.

He's a great singer and great guitarist but somehow it doesn't add up. It's all a bit detached and, oddly, soulless. Was that the open air RDS gig Dermot? I was there myself but working at it.

It was the his gig at the Olympia Ivor. It's funny you say it's all a bit detached and, ever so slightly soulless though, because that was the main reason I stopped following him. Just a smidgin too polished and perfect for my taste I'm afraid. At least he taught me to stay away from the likes of Bibb and company :)

In fairness Eric Bibb has some good moments.... but he is in the same "polished" vein all right.
