Nice one Ivor! Will have to get me a copy pronto. The only MFMD vinyl I have is his last live set - Shake Them On Down recorded at The Gaslight McDougal St. NYC 1971....Ivor wrote:Inspired by the "Guess the LP " thread.....
Re: Blues - what are you listening to?
It's a wonderfully simple recording (my copy is on vinyl via 4 Men with Beards) with Fred talking in studio for the first few minutes on each side about the blues and so on.... it's where the title comes from. Highly recommended.cybot wrote:Nice one Ivor! Will have to get me a copy pronto. Re: Blues - what are you listening to?
A bit more polished than I normally like but he has a great soulful voice and killer strat tone
Re: Blues - what are you listening to?
Saw him live in Dublin once. I think it was around the time of his second album. Fabulous concert too....Then I lost touch with him :( You're right Shane he does have a soulful voice & a terrific strat tone.....tweber wrote:

He's a great singer and great guitarist but somehow it doesn't add up. It's all a bit detached and, oddly, soulless. Was that the open air RDS gig Dermot? I was there myself but working at it.

Re: Blues - what are you listening to?
It was the his gig at the Olympia Ivor. It's funny you say it's all a bit detached and, ever so slightly soulless though, because that was the main reason I stopped following him. Just a smidgin too polished and perfect for my taste I'm afraid. At least he taught me to stay away from the likes of Bibb and company :)Ivor wrote:cybot wrote:Saw him live in Dublin once. In fairness Eric Bibb has some good moments.... but he is in the same "polished" vein all right.
