Nice one Ivor! Will have to get me a copy pronto. The only MFMD vinyl I have is his last live set - Shake Them On Down recorded at The Gaslight McDougal St. NYC 1971....

It's a wonderfully simple recording (my copy is on vinyl via 4 Men with Beards) with Fred talking in studio for the first few minutes on each side about the blues and so on.... it's where the title comes from. Highly recommended.

A bit more polished than I normally like but he has a great soulful voice and killer strat tone

Saw him live in Dublin once. I think it was around the time of his second album. Fabulous concert too....Then I lost touch with him :( You're right Shane he does have a soulful voice & a terrific strat tone.....

He's a great singer and great guitarist but somehow it doesn't add up. It's all a bit detached and, oddly, soulless. Was that the open air RDS gig Dermot? I was there myself but working at it.

It was the his gig at the Olympia Ivor. It's funny you say it's all a bit detached and, ever so slightly soulless though, because that was the main reason I stopped following him. Just a smidgin too polished and perfect for my taste I'm afraid. At least he taught me to stay away from the likes of Bibb and company :)

In fairness Eric Bibb has some good moments.... but he is in the same "polished" vein all right.
