It was possible to get linn oil, and a LP12 service, from Mark of Dublinn hi Fi when they were in Aungier St. They have since moved to the sticks and I dont know what is possible now. But a phone call might tell that! John

Yes, give Mark a call and he will sort you out. I know he now lives out in the sticks but is in around the city centre most weeks and will meet up with you if you contact him. I met him that last time I got my LP12 serviced / Ittock spring repaired , gave him the deck and met him a week later to collect - great service all for €95.00 and avoids going to a Hi-Fi store, listning to some new kit maybe better than yours, ariving home trying to find fault in you system and starting back on the upgrade path.

Linn LP12 bearing oil

Post by Ciaran »

Mine is No. 076173, so it's after the change to black oil. If I'd realised I'd probably have got some by now. Zero marks to me for observation and research! Still, maybe it's useful that I've flagged the fact that it is an issue for some older Linns.

So that means whoever is buying your Linn can now get the oil from either Linn themselves or from the Russ Andrews link I posted. The rest of us have just got to dig for it ;-) I'll tell you a story: I did indeed replace my Linn oil back in 2O00; Linn themselves sent me a phial free of charge.......it was the black stuff!?!?!? Thankfully I've had absolutely no problems with it but then again I've only played the Linn very spasmodically since I got the Notts. Analogue. I've already let them know that so I await their reply with interest :-)

Finally the guy from Russ Andrews (Peter Bevir) was very appreciative of the information I gave him. He told me that you learn something every day. He did say that turntables were not his strong point..... So Ciaran, well done on highlighting it in the first place!

I found this site selling the Velocite 6 oil as recommended by Linn and you can get it in a Litre can too :-) Reasonably priced too... Remember this is oil is recommended for vintage Linns with the white PTFE inner in the bearing...

Good work!

I wasn't able to find anything less than 20 litres! And at £8.10 it's a little over twice the price of 2.5ml of the black oil from Russ Andrews and 400 times the volume!

It might be one for Linn owners on the forum to get together and buy!

Thanks. Don't forget it's an extra £8.50 for p&p :-(

Modest came and bought the LP12 today. He listened to a few things and was very happy with it, if a bit nervous about transporting it home, as I would have been under the same circumstances: it's a delicate instrument. We packed it up cautiously with a little disassembly and he tells me he got it home safely.

So now I have no turntable... I got my first one in late 1977, so that's 33⅓ years that I've had one! I miss it a bit, but really I'd been listening to it very little in the last few years. Better for somebody who'll use it to have it!
