nice write-up James... the Naxos version is the Jeno Jando version I referred to above; the one I disposed of. Very clinical and 'mathematical' wasn't it?

PS I read somewhere than Jando has sold more CD's than anyone ever -- he used to record everything piano for naxos.

^^ yes James, the Jando was the one I parted with, because I felt it was a little.. erm, 'metronomic' and lacking in feeling. You are right about his output; I think he's recorded just about everything for Naxos, with mixed success...

His Annees de pelerinage are a supreme achievement in my view. I would also like to dip into his Mozart PCs at some point...

ah, that's interesting. I think I'll make do with my Ciccolini set for the time being, mind. I'm kind of grading music into the a) One performance only b) two versions and c) 3 plus versions of a work, depending on how much I like it. Liszt's piano music tends to fit into the former for me..

I absolutely agree with that recommendation Darren and one that I actually do play from time to time.

My favourites are: both of Pierre Hantaï´s recordings, Opus111 & Mirare, Ottavio Dantone´s hard to get Italian DECCA recording, or if it has to be on the piano András Schiff or Murray Perahia, but I´m really a cembalo man when it´s Bach we´re talking.
