Re: Blues - what are you listening to?
There's been lots of debates over the years about "the greatest live album ever" and I never get involved in them because, for me, this stands heard and shoulders over most of the usual contenders. (Jerry Lee Lewis live at The Star Club Hamburg April 1964 is another unsung hero in these debates).
It may be that I saw this band a lot around the mid '70s or it might be that this band reinforced my love of blues and R'n'B or that this band paved the way from pub rock to punk.... whatever it was this album still sends chills down my spine and brings me right back to the National Stadium where even the walls were sweatin'
Wilco making it look easy....

WILKO JOHNSON – IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
I am very sad to announce that Wilko has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas. He has chosen not to receive any chemotherapy.
He is currently in good spirits, is not yet suffering any physical effects and can expect to enjoy at least another few months of reasonable health and activity.
He has just set off on a trip to Japan; on his return we plan to complete a new CD, make a short tour of France, then give a series of farewell gigs in the UK. There is also a live DVD in the pipeline, filmed on the last UK tour.
Wilko wishes to offer his sincere thanks for all the support he has had over his long career, from those who have worked with him to, above all, those devoted fans and admirers who have attended
his live gigs, bought his recordings and generally made his life such an extraordinarily full and eventful experience.
Thank you.

That is indeed very sad news Ivor. I can still remember his frightening duck walking antics as he careered across the Stadium boards. Another one of a kind...Ivor wrote:very sad news today....Ivor wrote: whatever it was this album still sends chills down my spine and brings me right back to the National Stadium where even the walls were sweatin'

Re: Blues - what are you listening to?
Aye. Fran, Derek and myself saw him live in the Leeson Lounge a few short years ago and he'd lost none of the amicable manic charm. I saw him a few times as Wilko Johnston's Solid Senders too (broadly similar band members!) and he left nothing on the stage behind him.cybot wrote:That is indeed very sad news Ivor. A genuine hard working no nonsense R'n'B trooper.
He's actually doing a farewell tour (no really!) and hopefully he'll include Ireland.
and a younger Wilko with Ian Dury...
and a quick guitar lesson... (he learned his style from watching Pete Green and Johnny Kidd)
