If it is a cheap MM cartridge, I would upgrade that first. The Rega 3 is a capable turntable and improving the source would be a good start! Anything lost at the source (the turntable/tonearm/cartridge) can't be recovered somewhere else in the chain.

I would say with 100% conviction, the best upgrade you can do is change that stylus. It is definitely by far the weakest link in your chain.

Something like an Ortofon 2M Blue would sound a lot more natural and bring much better clarity etc etc, suit the Rega arm very well and not break the bank.

I started with Project 50e phono preamp, to Yaqin MS23B (~170e) and last week to Arcam rPhono (~400e). Each of those really nice bump in quality compared to previous one. So there's nice tube based Yaqin for sale now, if interested;)
IMHO never was satisfied with embedded integrated amp phono pres, and its nice to upgrade with time...
