its a denon pma 830 bypassing the amp end of things

there is a engineer in england called paul hynes designs he made an excellent pre amp if you can find one 2nd hand
maybe the rothwell attenuator would keep you happy .i gave one to noel cloney and i think he still uses it

Leben RS28CX would be my choice.... beautiful looking pre amp... apparently very well regarded sonically as well. Built in MM stage.

The EAR stuff... again very well regarded. I can't see you going wrong with either... however the downside is cost.

finally found something to replace my denon pma 830
a Krell KSp 7B
with a bit of luck this should be in the system by next weekend,
I hope.
