Jambo81 on Adverts

Post by Sloop John B »

Anyone dealt with this guy or know anything about him? Seems to have too many items for sale not to be a business of some sort.

Hard to make a call on this. Lots of positive feedback, zero negative! A lot of the gear is vintage, so it would be wise to bear in mind that old stuff may not be as reliable as new gear.

On the other hand, some gear might have already been recapped / serviced and defective parts upgraded etc. some of the older Audiolab amps required the RCA input terminals to be replaced, I think you can buy replacement parts on eBay etc.

Does the seller offer a warranty? 6 months perhaps? Or is it buyer beware?

IMO a lot of the time you can only made a judgement call by talking to the seller, visiting their shop etc and getting a feel for the person / attitude etc.

He is a name that I noticed myself on Adverts, given the amount of HIFI stuff that he is selling. He could be a person with electronics skills that buys the devices through internet, fix them and resell them to get an income. I met a similar person when I was living in Milan, which I contacted for a vintage amplifier (that I still have) and explained he was working as hifi repairman for a hifi shop, and his second activity was buying on ebay, fixing and selling. Good person, we became friends and he became my reference hifi technician. I miss the long chats and his expertise.

He has some serious gear there!
In short I don't know him at all but he seems legit.. as in all (credible) positive reviews and a consistent history.

There are some other guys out there who sell "new" hifi that's really demo gear from the UK or Europe. Again he seems legit enough but doesn't like if you question if its new or not...

But in answer to your question... sorry don't know him but seems OK.

I'm fairly certain a friend bought something off this seller - if I am correct then I have visited him, and yes he had a lot of stuff, and was sound to deal with.

As always, best to talk to the fella and go pick up in person.

Nice Klipschorns - would love a good listen to them!

Good to know, his advert style wouldn’t inspire confidence in me as they usually consist of a brief description of the item followed by a long quote from a review – no useful information like age or provenance.

I have a saved search on adverts and a lot of his items suddenly showed up.

And indeed those Klipsch look interesting but perhaps I’d be in the “ Test Pilots Or Dreamers” category he warns off!
