RTE1 B/H Monday @ 6.30

Post by Rocker »

A programme about Rory Gallagher. I never saw it or know the programme name, but I expect it to be very good. Probably essential viewing if you like Rory....
It's OK, if there is no bread I will eat cake.

That's essential alright! Thanks.
I mentioned elsewhere that Rory, being a very religious man, never recorded any Robert Johnston songs because of the myth surrounding Johnston having sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his playing skills. People seemed surprised by this news.

Essential viewing indeed!

Spooky story on the Robert Johnson songs. Never knew that.

My source for that was Julian Vingnoles (ex RTE producer) who wrote the definitive biography of Rory.

Discussion of whether Johnson speeded up his recordings to be more virtuosic.

Now earmarked, thanks Tom.
One of my everlasting regrets is never gotten to see him perform.

Saw him in ‘37 in a pub down on the quays whose name now eludes me and it closed during the emergency. From memory he certainly did play most of those numbers a little slower than the recordings.

My point was that Johnson was speeded up (and so Rory thought him devilish). Not that Rory was speeded up.
