Looking for a amplifier & Bookshelf Speakers!

Post by Raincheck »

Hi,

I would like to introduce my self, my is Rick and from the Netherlands living and working in Dublin Ireland.

I can still hear my high school music teacher say "by the time you can afford a descent HIFI set you are almost deaf"

Gladly I am not deaf and started to get my HIFI sorted at the moment I own:
Audio Analogue Puccini Settanta
Audio Analogue Paganini
Pro-Ject 6 Perspex Turntable
Focal Profile 918 Floor standing Speakers

I am really pleased with this setup but would like to expand.

One of the reasons why I joined this and other forums is to find the following:
I am looking for a used or reasonable priced new Audio Analogue Donizetti Cento Dual Mono Amplifier
to accommodate 2 focal Bookshelf Speakers witch I am also searching for.

Help tips or even better for sale is more than welcome, please sent me a PM or contact me at belmelater@hotmail.com

And of course all the best for MMXI

Regards,

Rick (a beginner)

Hi Rick and welcome to the forum, make yourself comfortable!

you can get Focal speakers from our friends at http://kronosav.com/hi-fi/speakers/focal/ and you can buy from them with confidence.

I couldn't find anything on your specific amp needs but both Cloney Audio and Kronosav would have a few interesting alternatives.
Vinyl -anything else is data storage.

Welcome to the forum Rick - that's a nice system you have there, the audio analogue stuff is really quite nice, very refined.

Hi guy's & girls,

I am in contact with Kronosav and they are able to supply the "Audio Analogue Donizetti Cento Dual Mono Amplifier" for a good price (Thanks Ivor for the tip!) so I will go for that.

There is just one dilemma:
Kronosav can also provide the "Focal profile 908" speakers and they go for £1400 that's a normal price online.
But if I do a search I find loads on offer but used somewhere between 600 and 900 euro.
I have no experience buying used loudspeakers so I would like to ask this forum for some guidelines
where to look out for and what to ask...

Thanks in advance,
Rick

No bother, they're good lads.

The same rules apply to SH speakers as to new except you'd want to know how old they are and what they were used with - just in case they were driven by amps far too powerful for them. Check the condition of the drivers and the surround - that might not even be a factor with Focals. Test with your own amp if you can. A typical Focal owner will respect their equipment so unless their system is the equivalent of a souped up low profiled go faster striped rice racer you should be safe enough.

Those Focal Profile 918s are nice looking speakers....I wonder how they sound?

I have an Audio Analogue Puccini amp for many years now and I have always liked the sound of it.

I hope that your project works out for you!

Hi,

Until 3 years ago I didn't own a decent audio set-up, so not much to compare with.
But having said that the Profile 918's are divine, smooth sounding and have this amazing clarity with in.
Before this it was a Sony DAV S800 Home Cinema System (witch I still have)

Image

It wasn't a fair completion, I kept the Home Cinema and installed:
Audio Analogue Puccini Settanta
Audio Analogue Paganini
Pro-Ject 6 Perspex Turntable
Focal Profile 918 Floor standing Speakers

Now I was able to experience the difference between the two, of couse the new set-up won hands down!
It's amazing when you discover all kinds of instruments/sounds on music tracks I heart many times before.

In the beginning it felled like down grading an insult to my new audio set-up to make it more multi functional.
So I am expanding to facilitate my Home Cinema, gladly I found already one item on my wish list the
Audio Analogue Donizetti Cento Dual Mono Amplifier for a very good price, until now not really successful with
the Focal Profile 908 it looks like I have to buy new and last on the list:
Focal Profile SW 908 Subwoofer
Focal Profile SCC 908 Center Channel

Okay that's it for now..!

Grtx,
Rick
