Arms and Sleepers: Nostalgia for the Absolute





This is a short but very attractive album with very engaging music and music making. It is the third time that I have listened to this album recently and I will no doubt return to it again. There is a broad sonic spectrum on offer here and I find it to be a good mix between acoustic and electronic music.

Beautiful sleeve. Very unusual name. Sounds intriguing….

Definitely worth a listen.

This album was mentioned in passing a little while ago. Here’s two tracks from the album. Anyone recognise that sweet and ballsy guitar sound?

I love Otis Spann, what a voice and what a piano player. The "real" Fleetwood Mac backing him. I know I've mentioned it before but I stll laugh at an interview Rory Gallagher did with RTE in the '80's where he referred to the post PG (and I suppose Rumours era) Fleetwood Mac as Cinzano Music. One of the first real exposures to Blues for me as a young lad was Blues Jam at Chess. What an eye opener. Still love Peter Green's playing

Lovely Rory story. I agree with you on Otis. Someone once said he could make the most decrepit piano sound like magic. I love your ‘real’ description of the Mac. What a shock when I heard that dbl. ‘best’ of. The name escapes me. Mostly blues. The very first track knocked me sideways. Then Jeremy Spencer doing that acoustic thing. Why wasn’t he doing more of that stuff instead of the ridiculous Elvis impersonations?? Not mention Elmore! Though I didn’t mind him too much. Just checked the title of that dbl. ‘The Original Fleetwood Mac/English Rose’. As for Blues Jam? I clearly remember buying it in Pat Eagan’s one time. On the way out I could hear Tommy (Tighe) mutter “There goes a man with good taste” Anyway those two tracks I mentioned to follow….

Frida's 3rd album reached the top ten in Sweden in 2008/9.
Piano lead whimsy, that's more appealing then it appears.
One of those 'have to be in the humour for' but when you are it ticks the boxes.
