Replacement of rubber surrounds on speakers

Post by peelaaa »

Hi,

I recently replaced the rubber surrounds on the mid/woofers on my pair of spendor sp2/2.
They were made in 1988 and sound quality seemed to have gone downhill over last few years. The surrounds had gone hard and had appearance of an old car tyre.
Using brake fluid helped for awhile but wasn't a longterm solution.
Bought a kit from german company sickenshop.com.

After replacement, there is much less harshness, more bass. And the warm sound spendors are known for is back.

Definitely worth doing if your speakers have similar age related wear and tear

Nice one, great to get a result and good to know it's home doable.

I did this on a pair of Gales a few years ago. Definitely worth the effort.
