Excellent hifi that looks cheap

Post by Kevin1 »

Hello, just looking for some suggestions for hifi that performs extremely well (and could be quite expensive) but that might pass for something quite modestly priced. in other words, equipement that is low on aesthethics and apparent construction quality, at least to the uninitiated. Mainly need speakers and amplifiers. Any ideas welcome.

Hi. Kevin
You need to be wary. There is a lot of hi fi gear out there which looks the business and sounds the business by name hut but not necessarily meeting ones expectations.
It is easy to put a all knobs and broom sticks on to a cover/box for a amp per say or indeed speakers.
It is what iis inside that matters and.how Well it performs
Only your ears can give you the answer.
I have never seen a. Hifi component that looks that awful iit could not be lived with.
My humble opinion is don't go for asthetix being the. Overriding factor in your choice.
Cables are a classic where cheap nasty conductors are wrapped. In a gorgeous jacket which you pay a fortune for and sound awful..
Good hunting

I would say Croft are a good example of this - looks very plain on the outside, but generally really good sound.

Just had a peek at that Mycetias audio website - prices seem very reasonable indeed

I would add Audio Tekne to the list: sometimes their amps can have the look of a military camp radio.
