Online vinyl purchasing

Post by Diapason »

Hi all,

Anyone have a good source for vinyl online? I'm sure I'll succumb to the Amazons of this world in due course, but is there anywhere else I should be looking (especially a site that might have better info about the exact pressing, etc, while also offering incredibly low prices? LOL, I know.) I'm looking for new vinyl here, second hand will probably require a different approach...

This is my local record shop. He sells online and is well worth checking out. For new vinyl, he's probably cheaper than most of the big onlines and Ray is sound.

Hi Simon.
Welcome into the warren. As mentioned here already I expect that your greatest pleasure with records might be the 20 to 30 minutes of peaceful and deep listening per side to albums as the artists conceived them. I know CD’s give us that. But streaming definitely put skipping and hopping into our lives. Records = deep listening. Again.
No remote control, no app, no diversions. Trying to resist “last track. What’s next ? Oh shit! It’s 3 a.m.”.
Superior kinda problem.
If you end up digging the LP’s I recommend the Blue Note Tone Poet releases. Bit dear but very good sounds.

I've spent a significant proportion of the day (when I should be working) looking at reviews of various pressings of various albums, checking out listings, etc. I'm getting sucked in already.

And you're absolutely right, this whole thing is about calmer, more considered listening. That's the big draw. Although it's odd in the extreme not to have a next track button for the first time in 30 years...

I wonder is that any 3 for 50euro or a selected few. I checked their prices online a couple of weeks ago. 30Euro for Aladdin Sane while Freebird have it for 19.95. Crazy.

It seems to be the selection that was offered at 2 for 40. I wouldn't give them a cent but I'm pretty sure there will be 3 albums I'd take at that price. I have laughed out loud at some of their prices... in the shop.
