Hi Guys, just want to see if anyone has any opinions on a Musical Fidelity X-LPS phono amp,the cylindrical one. I'm looking at one as part of a cheap TT set up for a second system with a Rega Planar 2. I already have a Rega Fono Mini A2D but was wondering if the MF might be a step up (seen a few for around €120) or am I as well off sticking with what I have?
Thanks,Shane.
Phono Amp opinion
Re: Phono Amp opinion
Hi Shane! So you're going all phono :) I'm not familiar with the RF but I am familiar with the MF brand having owned their amps. The X-LPS I had my eye on due to mostly good reviews. In my opinion I'd say it would definitely be a step up. It's also supposed to be the best of all the ones they brought out - see below (from Wigwam). Though I do remember a two box version too.tweber wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:06 pm Hi Guys, just want to see if anyone has any opinions on a Musical Fidelity X-LPS phono amp,the cylindrical one. "There were at least three versions of the X-LPS.
The original round X-LPS that replaced the X-LP.
The square silver fronted X-LPS v3.
The square grey fronted X-LPS v8.
The v8 version retailed for just under £300.
The v3 was about £250.
I'm unsure about the original round X-LPS but it was probably around the same price point index linked for its era."
Hope that helps Shane....
Re: Phono Amp opinion
Thanks Dermot - no this will be a second analog system but still have a separate digital set up too despite most of my music purchases being on vinyl now. It's more likely going to help someone else re-engage with vinyl after a long period so no real need to go over the top. I got the rega TT second hand a few months ago for very small money anyway but it will make its way back to me at some point more than likely.cybot wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:29 pmHi Shane! No bother Shane. If that's the case then stick with what you have.tweber wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 6:43 pmThanks Dermot - no this will be a second analog system but still have a separate digital set up too despite most of my music purchases being on vinyl now.
