Volume control

Is it advisable to turn volume down when changing albums on turntable?

Albums should be fairly consistent for output but certainly some are louder. It's fair to say it would be "best practice" to turn it down a bit between albums, same is true of CDs or downloads and, while I think of it, absolutely essential if switching between sources.

Thanks for that. I recently upgraded cartridge on my rega planar 2 turntable and I am getting a slight bit of static when volume is up on my amp.If I turn it down I can’t hear the static,it is only there for a few seconds then goes, it is most prevalent when volume is left high. Is this normal? I can listen to music perfectly,I can only hear it when volume is high.

Did you, or can you, adjust the amp to match the output of the cart?

When you lift the arm off the record, and leave volume high you get a few seconds of static through the speakers. After 30 seconds max,it goes. And like I said if volume was turned down-I don’t hear anything.I can’t recall this happening with the cartridge I had previously in the turntable.

I don't like that but hopefully someone can respond.
Oddly I had a static issue when the ground lead came loose on the phono stage. Drove me mad for a few days!

Thanks. I just hope I have cartridge connected ok,it was very tricky. But surely if it wasn’t connected properly there would be distortion playing music.
