Listening Suite New Shop opening

Post by tony »

Sure the lads will be along to post on their opening but it looks very exciting. They are stocking Metronome digital stuff and Wilson Benesch speakers. Great just around the corner I can call in every day for a listen!
Looks like the old NIB bank branch in Terenure village. Interesting to see how they used the space maybe they will be upstairs.

It's proper shop level and looks great. Only saw it passing by last week but it does look like a great open bright shop.

Got to hear the Metronome last night and meet the General Manager Jean Marie. Very nice guy both Metronome units look really nicely put together. I think 13k for the dac and 8+K for CD/Dac. Use an AKM 32 bit chip but using the amanero usb card. Power supply set up seems to be excellent and they seem(7 regulated supplies in the dac). The CD player looks lovely didn't get to see the mechanism work but Simon would definitely like it if his Wadia gave up. Too short a time and an unfamiliar system with unknown tracks but the system certainly sounded very nice. Lots of detail but not harsh in any manner. David had the Dynaudio speakers toed barely and it was near field listening in a wide but relatively narrow room. He explained the idea and creating a wide soundstage and placing everything in the right place. Both Jonathon and David are very knowledgeable and no doubt they could offer us all a lot of good advice on setting ones room up.

The shop well more like an upmarket minimalist furniture store is really nicely spaced out. Didn't see upstairs but they have a very large space.
Appear to have a range of systems for all price types from intro up to Metronome.

Thanks to the lads for such a pleasant evening. It is really worth a visit. The Metronome room with Moon Audio amp and Dynaudio speakers will change how you approach setting up your system. The Synthesis valve amps looked worth exploring. Very nicely finished.

Really hope it is a big success for the lads they are very passionate and genuine nice guys.

UPDATE: I put a bit of the advice David was em ranting on about last night re speaker positioning and creating soundstage by positioning the speakers further apart. Wow tried pushing the 63's out to the side walls and toeing in a little. David had the Dynaudio toed in about 10-15degrees they looked ridiculous compared to what we would normally be familiar with but have to say it works, soundstage of the 63's to my ears just doubled. Would suggest to anybody not happy with their sound to just experiment and try any position. It costs nothing an it might just surprise you. Next up will have to try with the 57's and see what happens.

I was there last night as well and have to concur with Tony, the Metronome units sounded fantastic, very detailed and natural. Very often I find CD players can be very detailed but it's not particularly natural. Here, listening to a piece with two classical guitars, you could "see" the finger work as notes were held to the frets and strummed or plucked.
Not cheap but hand made and nothing but the best components used in the manufacture... if you were going to buy "one last CD player" this should be on your demo list.

As always David and Jonathan were excellent hosts, informative and relaxed. It's a lovely shop, plenty of space and lots of really nice gear to drool over. The Synthesis valve amps are very pretty and very affordable - compared to valve amps of similar quality. Again, if you're in that market they would have to be demoed.

Following a recent visit to the shop and getting similar advice from David, I did the test at home by putting my JMR Abscisse further apart by 1m and WOW what a difference in sound stage and bass depth! :)

Yeah, my speakers are an absurd distance apart and I'm liking it!
