They might be almost gone, but lidl have headphones at the moment that are excellent. They are metal bodied in ear models, ones in the sporty section and are styled with laces for the headphone leads. I've been giving them a run out the last few days and they're really good once I got the right size ear plugs for them (3 sizes in the box).

Hard to go wrong for 3.99!

i bought an extra set today along with an ear mould kit off amazon - at 3.99 even if they are messed up it's worth the experiment.

Sugru - I have a pack of that, but when I've used it before (its great stuff) it takes quite a while to set, so I didn't think of it for earplugs.

Good on you Fran! I went looking for the shoelaces yesterday. I found them too :)
The nice Chinese guy unlocked the cabinet and I grabbed two pair - pink and black. Couldn't wait to get home. Rigged up the pink ones for my wife first. She couldn't believe what she was hearing! Then I had a look at mine and I just knew I'd have to modify them a little bit. Anyway I listened and the extra detail hit me full on. Great for instrumental stuff but not so good for vocals. So I did my little mod, restarted again listening to CCR's 40th anniversary 'Green River' and......I was frighin blown across the room! Wow! I spent the next while listening to the whole album and dancing like a fool to 'Bad Moon Rising' while trying to make a cup of tea. Definitely the best bargain of all time and then some.......

Yeah, I was really surprised - they don't have the detail of the shure 535 but they are very good. I think having them in custm ear moulds would have to improve them another bit. The pause button on the lead is handy too....
