SOLD: Krell FPB300c Stereo Power Amp

Post by Steve »

Selling a Krell FPB300c Stereo Power Amp which I bought from dealer in UK at end of 2015.

300wpc into 8ohms, 600wpc into 4ohms, the usual Krell power house stuff. Excellent condition and with original packaging.

If not too familiar with the particular Krell series and model, review below pretty much covers it:

Please PM if interested....

I had this beast in my own system for a while, on loan from Steve, and I can report that it's a seriously impressive piece of kit. If he'd been selling it 3 or 4 months ago I doubt I'd have bought my Mark Levinson. As an added bonus, you can use it to train for the World's Strongest Man Atlas Stones competition.

Go on, Steve. Tell them what lunacy you have in mind here.

Thanks Si! Yes, this time of year with the long evenings does seem to bring about seasonally recurrent bouts of HiFi lunacy....

So the current lunacy is something along the lines of...
- The Krell was bought as a ss powerhouse alternative to valves (in the form of Jadis JA80's), really to see if my speakers preferred a serious amount of ss current to the more conservative output from the French valves.
- Having swapped over the amps a number of times over the year, I think I've come down on the side of the valve presentation. More to do I believe with a re-affirmation of the Jadis signature sound than an out-and-out statement of valves vs ss.
- But there certainly were elements of the grip that the more powerful output of the Krell brought about which brought a smile to the face...
- Hence some ridiculous thoughts about trading in the JA80's for a higher power output version (in the form of JA200's) Which sadly involves a parting of the ways with the Krell ss powerhouse to help make it happen...

So that's the current mode of thinking on what may come after the 'Kreller'!

I hear the ESB have lodged planning permission for a small nuclear generator having heard of the sudden surge in demand likely!

Interesting I have the same feeling about the group buy and my view on the Jadis signature sound. Not hoping to replace the Jadis but hopefully enjoy two different options. The only caveat is that Nigels amp has such a clear black background if I get it installed will I not want to go back.

Maybe consider changing the speakers Steve for something easier to drive?

Lol Fran! Yep, nothing like some Class A to counter those cold winter evenings! On paper the Krell can certainly draw some serious current at max output. Although its dynamic biasing technology does mean it is not always so power hungry. I didn't really notice any spikes in the ESB bill!

Don't think I'll be changing the Amati's quite yet... The JA80's, at least in my room which isn't on the large side, manage very well. It's just that every now and again the curiosity bug bites... The sensible thing is probably to leave well alone!
