The Listening Service

Post by Abminor »

There is fantastic series running on Radio 3 at the moment that is changing the way I'm listening to many works and composers. It might be of interest to people here: the podcasts are downloadable at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b078n25 ... des/player

I really enjoyed the analyses of the eroticism of Tristan and Isolde http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07xhfcz and the genius of Mozart http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b078n3r2. Yes, we all know he's a genius, but a little more difficult to define exactly why. It certainly dispels the myth that his music is 'simplistic'.

They seem to be on a Second Viennese school love-in at the moment - probably the only classical music I don't really care for, so I owe it to myself to listen and be converted. But I still recall an interminable performance of the appropriately named 'Erwartung' and the relief of getting to the bar during the interval.

Lovely, thanks very much for that, it's much appreciated.
