seem quieter/ blacker background more resolution/ air/timbre /separation
just that bit of finesse that makes the difference

Re: probably the best usb to i2s device
I have installed the potato flipflop. I gave in only because they are so cheap and easy to source here in the states. Had some issues at first, not sure what, but after some rewiring, got things working. I'll need a little time to articulate the difference (and let the solder and chip cool). As of right now, the pacing/timing seems ever so slightly slower. Presentation is more relaxed, refined, articulate. Yes, I think lower noise. Makes my setup sound expensive. Potato need to advertise this chip next to a bottle of the good stuff (insert your fave).
This is as good as any point to pause on this hobby for the time being - priorities have shifted in recent days. Many thanks Nige. The potato is the icing on the cake. The diyaudio soekris crowd don't know what they're missing!

Re: probably the best usb to i2s device
Its taken a few weeks from Japan but finally got 6 of these Potato Reclockers today.
These things are tiny, never expected that from the picture!!!
Might try and see if I can solder direct to the legs first on one as I forgot about boards for them and even if I had boards I would never be able to get them soldered onto the board.
Will be a test for a steady hand.
