Which is best...

Post by Rocker »

A DVD disk played on a DVD player or on a Bluray player? Or would both be the same. No fancy projector system, using a normal 32" TV for viewing.

I don't think there will be any difference TBH.

Blue ray was designed to read discs which have large amounts of data ie greater than 25Gb, and even up to 128G bytes, as the technology matures more data may be possible.

High definition video at high frame rates create big data files, UHD resolutions of 3840 X 2160 require enormous file sizes.

To get all this data onto a silver disc requires different methods, hence blu Ray uses a blue or violet laser beam with a smaller wavelength (405nm) than the normally red laser for DVD.

Blu Ray players are backwards compatible with DVD discs and CD discs, but that is because they have dual laser reading mechanisms, that is they have blue and red laser mechanisms.

If a Blu Ray disc is inserted, the violet laser will read the disc, but if a DVD disc is played the violet laser mechanism is not used, but the other mechanism is used instead, which I think is red laser.

Unless your TV is able to display UHD (3840x2160) or 4K (4096x2160) or HD ( 1920 x1080) resolutions having a Blu Ray player is overkill.

DVD is standard definition ideally used on SD T.V. sets.

So in short, you can play the DVD in the Blu Ray player, but it won't obtain a higher definition, and ultimately the final result has to be shown on what the TV can best deliver.

I'm no expert in this area, but I'd look at it like this - if I had a DVD player, I wouldn't buy a blu ray, but if I wanted a disc spinner then I would buy a blu ray over DVD player?
Do or do not, there is no try

What about that:

Basic blue-ray player and basic DVD player are priced almost this same - the difference is like 5-10 euro if any.

On standard definition TV will be no difference at all with picture/sound quality.

Blue ray player will play bout formats DVD and Blue ray but with DVD you are stuck with one format.

The best choice in my opinion will be Blue ray player.

I hope this help
